Symposium addresses need for education

EDUCATION will develop the full potential of a person so he or she can enjoy life, according to women’s leader Beddy Jubillee.
Jubillee, a former public servant in the East New Britain provincial government, addressed a women’s leadership symposium in Kokopo organised by the Pacific Partnership programme last week.
She said education developed the full potential in a person in a holistic way so that that person could enjoy a prosperous life.
“Human development must be our prime focus through relevant education to prepare the economically active population, most of which are women,” she said.
Jubillee said it was sad to note that 80 per cent of people coming out of the formal system ended up taking drugs and alcohol because of the lack of counselling facilities in the country.
She said it was critical for women to take the lead in developing their families in a holistic way. She called on participants to learn skills from their parents and elders.
“Learning life basics and skills from parents is golden. You will grow old with what you have learnt and it will go far in complementing the skills and knowledge you get in a formal system,” she said.
