POLICE in East New Britain (ENB) have arrested and charged a man for cyber bullying after he allegedly used social media (Facebook) to threaten another person.
ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said the incident took place earlier this month.
He warned the public in ENB not to publish defamatory or threatening statements using mobile phones and social media as this was against the law.
He said the suspect Ronny Kointuo, 53, from Ulaulatava in Kokopo posted on Facebook about oil palm issues in the province which were supposed to be addressed administratively by a company.
Chief Insp Tabali said the complainant Elias Kamara, who is a member of the Kairak clan, Malabanga, Gazelle, commented on the issue.
After several exchanges, Kointuo threatened Kamara by stating that he knew his location in Port Moresby and would arrange with his associates in Port Moresby to deal with him (Kamara).
Chief Inspt Tabali said Kamara reported the matter to police and the suspect was formally arrested and charged.
Kointuo is detained at the Kokopo Police Station.
