 THE Taekwondo PNG Federation’s two-day event held recently at the Don Bosco Technological Institute Hall turned out a success.

Over 14 clubs from all over the country took part in the Korean Ambassador’s Cup.

Competing against the Nation­al Capital District and Central were Buin Taekwondo, Buka Tae­kwondo, Lae, Mount Hagen Taekwondo academy, Kimbe Taekwondo.

“This tournament has set the highest standard of athlete in the country and the Korean Ambassador was very impressed with our athletes performance,” Taekwondo PNG president Simon Kama said.

The core sponsor of the training camp was the Papua New Guinea Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (PNGSFOC) through the Go 4 Gold programme.

They sponsored the competition K75,500 which included a week-long training camp followed up by the tournament.

Kama said he was impressed with the outcome and that the two-day event weekend was a success.

The award for senior male fighter of the tournament went to Reina Peni of Kassman Taekwondo Club while the award for senior female went to national representative Theresa Tona also of Kassman Taekwondo.

The best junior fighter was Maximillion Kassman.
