A Taiwan trade mission in PNG

has donated two containers of solar LED street lighting valued at US$130,000 (K280,000) to the ministry of youth, religion and community development.

Thanks to the co-operation of William Fang, chief of Taiwan’s technical mission in Lae, Morobe, a used Nissan Navara was also given to a women’s association plus two tonnes of rice for flood victims in Lae.

Taiwan country representative Daniel Hu gave the items to Lae MP and Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development Loujaya Toni in Lae last Tuesday

“Today’s events mean a lot to me,” he said.

“I am happy because I have fulfilled my commitments to keep offering solar lighting to those 88% disadvantaged areas without access to electricity in PNG.

“Taiwan is a donor country to Papua New Guinea.

“One of my main missions here is to work with the PNG government to provide needed assistance for its national development.

“When Prime Minister Peter O’Neill repeatedly emphasises year 2013 as the year of implementation, I am touched by his determination and dedication to make the country improve.

“I also know it’s time for my office to do more to make the best of the momentum.”
