Take back control of PNG

Letters

I HAVE been on a wonderful and memorable holiday in Papua
New Guinea over the last month and have been completely absorbed by the changing political scene.
Such is my interest that I have been out at 7am each morning in Waigani market to buy the local papers and watch the drama unfold.
You must all be congratulated on such a smooth transition from one government to another.
This could only happen in PNG because you are truly a very peaceful and Christian living community which can accept change without too much fuss.
It is a credit to you all that as relatively new independent country you can clearly demonstrate that democracy is very healthy and you can change leadership when the members of parliament and people feel that it is time for a change of direction.
You have avoided protests, violence and military oppression which unfortunately are so common in many developing countries when there is a demand for political change.
I wish Prime Minister, James Marape every success in his genuine desire to take back control of PNG.
It is remarkable and most certainly a world record within democratic countries that
he gained support from 93 per cent of the Members of Parliament.
He is a brave and honest man who is prepared to confront things which are wrong and harmful to your country.
I am confident that he and his new government will address the national debt, the economic problems, the corruption in too many aspects of life, the gap between rich and poor, the overreliance on foreign ownership and the isolation of many people and communities.
You have my full support and admiration to make PNG the richest black Christian country on earth where no child is left behind.
I know you will be successful and I look forward to hearing about the future success of your wonderful country.
