Take holistic approach

Letters

THE NID project is good. When everything is done electronically, the result should be 100 per cent correct unless the data system is hacked.
When things are done manually, the cost is high and there are room for many errors.
To implement a large project such as the NID project, the Electoral Commission, relevant departments and agencies need to take a holistic approach.
For example; all hardware infrastructure should be designed to cater for their intended purposes with network capabilities.
Hardware are computer servers, computers for offices, network devices, tablets and cameras.
Secondly, set the network of the hardware from other centres to the headquarters, Waigani.
Thirdly, programme all software and applications.
Then provide proper training for officers involved.
Finally, make sure there are three administrators with the password for servers where data is stored, filed and print sharing for security of data and clean operation of the devices.
By taking this approach, the implementing stages of the hardware and software will cost less.
If that is done, there would be few personnel to work on the system and the output, which is NID and birth certificate, will be maximised.
This is my approach to NID project system.
