Takiri, Seko to lead field at Madang Open
PAPUA New Guinea’s top golfers Brian Takiri and Christine Seko are likely to lead a field of amateurs at the Madang Open next month.
The two-day Open, from June 25-26, will be staged at the Madang Bowling and Golf Club along Kalibobo Drive.
Takiri and Seko will take to the green with experience from last year’s Pacific Games and the recent PNG Open.
The Madang Open is supported by Digicel with K20,000, which will go towards the prize-money and the administration of the tournament.
The mobile telecommunications service provider announced its sponsorship of the Open as naming rights sponsor and handed over the money to Madang Golf club president Robert Turik.
During the presentation at the club greens on Tuesday, the firm’s area sales manager John Rem said the mobile company was thrilled to sponsor Madang’s annual sporting event.
“We are great supporters of many other regional and international golf tournaments, it’s important to look after events that matter in our regions,” Rem said.
“The Madang Open is popular among the business community as it provides a great networking environment for business professionals with a passion for golf.
“My firm is delighted to be a major part of this community engagement for Madang and the Mamose region.”
The tournament will have up to 160 players competing, including local and regional business executives, and professional golfers from all over PNG and promises to be a great event.
