Takon to head Porgera League

 THE Porgera League recently elected a new set of  executives for 2013 season proper. 

The president is Jack G.Takon, vice-president Frank Moody, competition manager Mexcie Tangeria, Treasurer Reverend Kuni and assistant Julie Parai, secretary Stanjoe Tero and the selection coordinator is Chris Luai. 

The referee’s president is Mark Alois

Takon is a pioneer league administrator and a founder of Porgera representative side the Gold Nuggets  which has played in national competitions like the Ipatas Cup and also toured North Queensland. 

He was formerly the referees president for Porgera league for 10 years and has been vocal on the PNGRFL issues. 

He has also coordinated local competitions all over Enga and has had a hand in in training and coaching clinics in remote parts of the province. 

Takon thanked club officials for having confidence in him. 

“I have my vision and values that will be priorities to develop rugby league in Porgera. 

“I want to get our youth interested in playing and being involved in sport rather than alcohol and drugs and crime,” Takon said.

He said that he would push for the eventual entry of  the Porgera Nuggets into the Digicel Cup next year.”

He thanked all companies that continued to support Porgera Rugby League since the start of competition. Takon encouraged to community leaders, church elders and the business houses to come together and support the youths. 

“Without the sponsorship and support, Porgera League would not have competitions and send selected squads to participate national and internationally events,” Takon said.
