THE PNG Sports Foundation, through its training arm – the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Goroka, will be conducting a nation-wide talent identification programme.
The team headed by Gideon Jeffrey of the NSI is conducting “Come and Try Days” targeting primary, secondary, tertiary and disciplinary forces and sporting associations to find potential athletes for 2015 Pacific Games.
Jeffrey said if anyone thought they had the potential to run fast, run longer, jump far, throw further and were well-coordinated, the country needed them.
The TIP team made a trial run with Gaire Community School, in Central, last Friday and was impressed with the potential there.
Jeffrey said they had conducted the search phase of the TIP in Simbu, Madang, Lae, Goroka, Kalo, Abau, Kairuku and at the last year’s PNG Games in Kokopo, East New Britain.
They identified 1,200 athletes who would be invited to regional camps where national federations will be invited to take part and send young talent.
He reminded those provinces not listed to contact the TIP coordinator at the NSI on 5322391, fax 5321941 or [email protected]
