THE East Sepik administration and Angoram are prioritising a road link with Maramuni, in neighbouring Enga.
The decision to develop the road links with Enga was made at a meeting held by the Angoram development authority (DDA) and the provincial government with other development partners in Wewak on June 18.
Project officer for Angoram MP Salio Waipo, Klaatu Yabang, said the discussions resulted in positive feedback from stakeholders to see the road link progress in the near future.
The proposed road project will run from Maramuni at Enga-Sepik border through the three local level governments of Yuat, Karawari and Keram.
Yabang said basic services to people living in those LLGs, which are on the other side of the Sepik River, were not reaching them.
“The cost of delivering services to these people is very expensive and to reduce costs and give people that chance of engaging in agricultural activities, will be through this road link (to Enga),” Yabang said.
According to Yabang, the Enga government had constructed their side of the road to Maramuni and it was now up to East Sepik authorities as well as the national government to come up with plans to connect East Sepik with Enga.
