THE Morobe provincial executive council will put on the table four main points when it meets Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on the proposed Lae city commission plan tomorrow in Port

Moresby.

The delegation will be led by Governor Kelly Naru. They will ask O’Neill that:

  • They be given copies of the draft Lae City Commission bill to study;
  • the Government identifies and points out the boundaries of Lae that will be covered by the commission’s jurisdiction;
  • the Government details the benefit-sharing agreement for the eight districts of Morobe as regards the Lae city commission; and,
  • The landowners be recognised.

The provincial executive council members led by Morobe deputy governor Judas Nalau included Philemon Tomala, Michael Poane, Daki Moa, Charlie Foike, Patrick Basa, Andrew Gena and Lae Lord Mayor Koim Trilu Leahy.

They told reporters what they wanted discussed.

Nalau said the Government had been ignoring their request for consultation to  address the issues.

Leahy said it was a good concept but the Lae urban LLG, the Lae city council and the Morobe provincial government must be involved as partners in the consultation.
