Tammur and team arrive in Solomons for culture meet

Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Emil Tammur arrived in Solomon Islands yesterday, a day ahead of the sixth Melanesian Spearhead Group Ministers of Culture and Arts meeting in Honiara.
He was accompanied by acting executive director of National Cultural Commission John Uani, acting director of the National Museum and Arts Gallery Alois Kuaso and officials from the ministry.
Tammur will be chairing the meeting tomorrow at the Heritage Hotel where the enhancement of Melanesian arts, culture, education and music and other related issues will be discussed.
Other ministers from the Melanesian states are from Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.
Tammur is expected to deliver a statement to show PNG’s national programmes and initiatives on arts and culture, and sub-regional cooperation initiatives.
He will be at the opening of the festival on Friday and returns on Saturday.
The Papua New Guinea contingent of 150 performers will be travelling to Honiara at the end of the week to showcase distinct cultures and traditions that define PNG’s origins in a 10-day extravaganza.
