PNG Power Ltd chief executive officer John Tangit resumed duties yesterday following the lifting of his two-month suspension by the board last week.

The board reinstated him after most of the members were satisfied with his response to the allegations made against him.

He said he was determined to provide a reliable electricity supply service to the nation.

He promised to work with the board and management to “tighten up our procurement and financial systems identified as being the cause of issues that surrounded my suspension”.

“I will cooperate with the investigation team so that we can identify areas that need improving,” he said.

Tangit said there had been “no fishy deals but there have been costly oversights in project management roles which are costing PPL now”.

“I respect the new board which comprises  high-profile business individuals with a high degree of business acumen,” he said.

“With the board’s credentials and experience, we will set the strategic path for PNG Power to take on its issues and challenges provided under its business plan.”
