VILLAGERS of Chivasing, Wampar local level government, in Morobe last Thursday celebrated the opening of a water pump.

PNG Water Drillers was contracted to install the pump and opened the tap watched by the excited villagers who had been without good quality, clean water for more than 28 years.

The village, situated along the Highlands Highway, is about 41 miles from Lae and is the home of Huon Gulf MP, Ross Seymour.

The project, initiated by Seymour and community leaders, is inline with the district’s five-year development plan to see clean water available to every home.

Candidate for Wampar LLG council president seat Nathan Akuila said a similar water pump was installed in 1985 but it broken down. Since then the people had to fetch water from a nearby river for cooking and drinking.
