THOUSANDS of people in the Tari-Pori district of Hela gathered at Jote village in the Tebi LLG to witness the launching of the district’s strategic development plan yesterday.

Finance Minister and Tari-Pori MP James Marape was

accompanied by Planning and Monitoring Minister and Alotau MP Charles Abel.

Marape, who is also the Education Minister, said: “This is a very special occasion as we will be launching our district strategic development plan and also the past five years development reports will be presented to the planning and monitoring Minister Charles Abel.”

Marape said whatever developments that would take place in the five year period were all captured in the plan and public servants would play an active role in implementing them.

He said for the past five years, he had been working without public servants and today wanted the Hela provicial government to immediately confirm public servants so that works in the districts were carried out effectively.

“Unlike in the past, today the O’Neill-Dion Government has given priority to the local level government and the five LLGs in the district will get K500,000 each.

“All councillors, LLG presidents, public servants and the people must work together to make sure services are successfully delivered,” he said.

He said every LLG president must look at improving aid posts and health centres, schools, roads and bridges in their wards.

“The National Government is committed in delivering services and the LLG presidents must do their part so that our district is developed,” he said.

Abel praised Marape for being the first MP to hand over the district strategic development plan which he will look at.
