PORT Moresby Vipers coach Leonard Tarum says he is happy with his side’s performance in Sunday’s 25-24 win over Enga Mioks at Lae Rugby League Ground.
Tarum told The National yesterday that his men had shown improvement especially in their completion rate.
“I’m happy that we not only won the game but there was a big improvement compared with our season opener,” he said.
“Our completions were way below par against Kimbe Cutters in round one. But the game against Mioks was a better performance by us.
“We completed over 75 per cent of our sets. Our execution was good and it was a well-deserved win.”
Tarum said his side didn’t have much possession but they defended well.
“I think the Mioks had the ball for most of the game.
“Obviously, that’s what the six-again rule can do. They had quite a number of set restarts, but I was very impressed with the good defensive effort from us.
“The solidarity in defence was there and we held them off.”
Meanwhile, Tarum said captain Thompson Teteh and former skipper Ade Kawa had shown good leadership since the start of the season.
“Teteh is a good captain and he seems to be leading by example since he took up the role this season,” he said.
“Kawa is always there as well, giving Thompson (Teteh) the support.
“They are very good leaders and I look forward to seeing them guide the team for the remainder of the season.”
