Taurama needs water

Letters

I am disappointed with Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko’s development plans for his electorate, especially Taurama valley and the beach area.
The population in Taurama has grown in the past five years and now there are more than 7000 people living there.
Unfortunately, the area does not have a water supply.
We buy water from commercial companies.
Families with vehicles get water from containers outside the city, but families without a vehicle have no choice but to buy water from retailers here.
Water from retailers cost us about K5 for 20 litres, or K300 a month for a small family and K500 for a big family.
We would really appreciate it if the honourable member at least makes an effort to provide this very essential service to the people of Taurama.
We cannot continue to live like this for another year or two.
Water is a necessity of life and the MP should make installing a water supply system to Taurama a priority, as he promised last year during his general election campaign.
On behalf of the people of Taurama I ask the MP to look into this problem. The very people who put him to power are suffering right now.
