ISIKELI Taureka has been appointed managing director of Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH).
This was announced by State Enterprises Minister Sasindran Muthuvel yesterday after Prime Minister James Marape had signed the gazettal notice on Wednesday.
Muthuvel said Taureka’s appointment was made by an independent body based on his qualification and merit.
“I am happy to announce that as of yesterday (Feb 19), we have confirmed Isikeli Taureka as the permanent MD (managing director) of KCH,” he said.
“Yesterday, the PM signed and released a gazettal list.
“So that was totally independent without any political influence.
“It was given to a third party to do the recruitment and approach NEC,” he said.
Before his appointment, Taureka served in various executive and non-executive positions, the recent one being as the chairman for Kina Bank.
He is also executive manager of Newcrest.
Taureka featured prominently during the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby as the chairman of the chief executive officer’s conference.
Muthuvel said a permanent chief executive officer for PNG Power Ltd would be appointed soon.
“The next one will be PNG Power which will also be done (independently) without any favour to anyone within the organisation or outside,” he said.
He said as part of the State-owned enterprises reforms, actions were being taken to stop nepotism.
“We have made a point that we will be recruiting purely base on qualification and merit,” he said.
“That process has already started.”

  • This is a welcoming news to the people of PNG. credible people with wide range of skills, knowledge and experience should be appointed in all Public institutions. The appointment of Sam Koim is another good call by the Marape – Steven Government. we would like to see similar appointment in PNG Power and other institutions filled with political cronies of the former government.

  • This appointment is done purely on merit. Well done minister and PM.
    Congratulations Mr Taureka.

  • I wholly welcome this appointment that was purely done based upon merits.Looking forward to similar appointments in the other head of departments. For JM to bring the change that people of this nation direly want to see happen, like minded right people appointed based purely on merits must be put in these positions and it has just began with the appointments of Sam Koim and Isikeli Taureka with the rest to follow suit.

  • Congratulations Mr. Taureka.

On behalf of those of us (employees) who know you from the petroleum industry, congratulate you for your appointment as we know your leadership in this industry. You are focused and a risk taker. Your are networked and have growth mind with confidence. You are a hustler who doesn’t give up, give in and surrender to circumstances. Your creativity will make difference in your new appointment. You are flexible and positive always when addressing issues with respect and together find remedies to resolve . Congratulations!

  • This appointment is in the right direction and there should be more of such appointments to improve other state corporate entities to ensure good governance and profitability.

  • Congradulation Keli on your appointment. You have the international exective management experience that only few Papua New Guineans have.
Lead KH as a business and temove unproductive managers that are unproductive.

  • PNG needs qualified professionals with technical and management professionals to be invited back to help develop the country using the expetince that they have gained working overseas. Congradulation Keli on your appointment. There are only few PNGean with such international executive management and leadership experience.

  • A well deserved appointment purely on merits; more of similar appointments to follow suit especially the SOE entities that have too many appointments done outside of the due process!!! we should soon be able to see a break through in MD/CEO roles been made through the due process.

  • This restores confidence and demonstrates that there are qualified experienced nationals to fill executive positions in our SOEs. Look at the mess left by expat CEO at BMobile, Telikom, PNG Power, Air Niugini even at IPBC/KCH

  • The appointment of Mr Taureka should set the sense for future appointments of MDs and CEOs to SOEs, Statutory Authorities, Government Departments and Boards. Time for appointing political cronies, wantoks, thieves, and so on must come to an end. Merit based appointments should be the way forward if the Marape led Government is to “TAKE BACK PNG” and make PNG the “richest black nation” on the planet. Mr Taureka is a role model for any aspiring professionals in the oil, gas and mining industry. Congratulations Mr Taureka!!

  • Way forward for the Country. We need credible people to occupy various head of state entities.

  • Congratulations to Isikeli Taurika!
Well deserve appointment. Thanks to PM JM and Minister for having a trust and confidence to appoint Mr Isikeli Taurika to lead SOE’s.
Going forward, appointment made based on merit and background history.
Esikeli Taurika has a wealth of experience and is the first national who gets to the top of the corporate ladder in multinational corporation like Chevron Niugini and InterOil.
Sure he will fix loopholes, deliver results and take run down SOE’s to next level under his management style.
Going forward, Government shouldn’t intervene in KCHL management decision.
Let’s continue to take back PNG…

God bless PMJM and his Government.
