Internal Revenue Commission officers have donated sporting equipment and books to a primary school in the Talasea area of West New Britain.
It is part of a tradition for IRC officers to visit a selected primary school during their mid-year and end-of-year review workshops when held outside Port Moresby.
The officers buy the equipment and books themselves.
Last month, they held their mid-year workshop at the Liamo Reef Resort in Kimbe and picked Pangalu Primary School in the ward 8 zone at Talasea LLG.
IRC Commissioner Betty Palaso said the IRC cared for the community and was doing its part to help improve schools outside the main urban areas.
“IRC is not just about collecting taxes for the government to help run vital services in the country, but we also care for the community,” Palaso said.
Deputy school board chairman Nick Uma thanked the IRC executive management and officers for their kindness and visit which lifted the spirit and put smiles on the children’s faces.
“Your donation would go a long way in helping our students learn and at the same time have fun through sports to complement the learning process,” Uma said.
The officers have made similar donations to other schools around the country.
