THE recommendations of the Tax Review Committee are before the Government for consideration, except the Goods and Services Tax deferral schemes, says Commissioner-General of the Internal Revenue Commission Betty Palaso.

Palaso was responding to a query by the The National on whether some of those recommendations were being implemented in this fiscal year. Palaso said the recommendations of the committee “are currently under consideration by the Government”.

She said it would be inappropriate for the IRC to comment on matters currently being considered by Government.

“The timetable for any announcement or enactment of legislation is a matter for Government,” she said.

“The GST deferral scheme was the only recommendation from the Tax Review Committee approved by Government for implementation effective January 1,” Palaso said told The National.

During the handing over of the report late last year, Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch indicated that he would like to consider some of the recommendations in the 2017 budget.
