AN elementary school teacher is still awaiting salary claims of more than K3,000 from the Education Department.
The teacher, Benjamin Minikula, was previously teaching in Port Moresby at the Holy Rosary Elementary School and then was transferred to Lae at St Paul’s Lutheran Elementary School where he had been teaching since January 2007.
Mr Minikula said yesterday he had sent at least four letters to the department’s salaries section to query his salaries for January to October 2007 but had not received a response.
He approached the Papua New Guinea Teachers Association (PNGTA) Momase Regional secretary’s office for help.
Regional secretary Mathew Pobaya wrote a letter on March 4, 2009, but that too had not been answered.
Mr Minikula said the salary totalling K3,332 was from Jan 22 to Oct 30, 2007.
The PNGTA had advised its lawyers, Daniels and Associates of Lae, to pursue the matter.
