A FUTSAL association is taking the code into a college lecture room where teacher trainees are taught the basics of the sport, an official said.
Sepik Futsal Association coordinator Clarence Hukahu said the association was invited by the professional development strand of the Divine Word University’s Kaindi campus in Wewak, East Sepik, to teach the basics of futsal to the teacher trainees.
“The introduction to futsal, its laws as well as sports administration basics are new concepts to a majority of the trainees,” Hukahu said from Wewak.
“We had the lecture on Monday in the campus and that would be followed by practical sessions on the field.”
He said futsal was one of the sports selected by the college for the trainees to use during their teaching practice sessions as well as when they went out to teach.
“It is our hope that the concepts learnt will later be relayed to students in schools that these trainees will one day teach at in different parts of the country,” Hukahu said.
“In that way, futsal will be promoted far and wide.”
SFA is the parent association of a number of local associations that have ongoing competitions in Wewak and surrounding communities.
Futsal was introduced as a pilot project in 2006 at Kreer Primary School as a lunch hour game to keep students in the school area.
