TEACHERS have been paid their allowances but not in accordance with the agreement they signed with the Teaching Service Commission, a teacher in Central says.
Tiomdi Marcellus, who teaches at Kemabolo Primary School in Rigo district, is disputing a statement by Teaching Service Commission executive officer Neilo Dobunaba.
Dobunaba said last week the service allowance, although not shown on pay slips, was built into the pay system for teachers on the department’s payroll.
The commission said the K75 service fee allowance, the K19.23 accommodation allowance and the 6% consumer price index (CPI) of their net salary was combined in their pay.
Marcellus said such a system caused confusion.
“They must come clean as to how much exactly we should be receiving because it’s not shown on our pay slip.
“I myself am receiving only K60, others K30 of the agreed amount.”
He said the commission must pay teachers the outstanding amounts before the K100 service allowance for the second year came into effect “otherwise they will cover up what we should be receiving”.
The three-year teaching service allowance effective from Jan 1 last year will see the commission pay teachers K75 in the first year, K100 this year and K125 next year.
