MOST primary school teachers in Maprik, East Sepik failed to turn up to work on Monday, according to the district education adviser Rex Alimaka.

He blamed it on the late listing of postings and resumption of duty summary sheets.

Alimaka said teachers were yet to be notified of whether they were moving to other schools or remaining in the same schools.

The postings have to be recommended by the school’s board of management.

“The provincial education board will make changes in teacher postings only if recommended by the school board,” Alimaka said.

He said most of the teachers in the district were unhappy about the late listing of postings.

Alimaka said teachers would submit their choice of school to be transferred to when their three-year term expired.

“I am now calling on the PEB not to penalise teachers for late resumption because the late postings is not their fault.”

The district education office in Maprik received the lists on Tuesday.
