HUON Gulf MP Ross Seymour has invested in 10,000 Christian citizenship value education (CCVE) curriculum materials for 700 teachers in 159 primary schools in the district.
Apart from CCVE materials, Seymour piloted the School of Academy (SoA) with Zifasing Primary School in Wampar, to ensure grade eight students continued to grade 10.
Seymour told acting Huon Gulf education manager Sam Geseng to extend the SoA concept to Morobe, Kamiatum (Salamaua) and Tsiletsile (Lower Watut) primary schools.
Seymour launched the CCVE materials and training-of-trainers (ToT) in-service for 11 clusters in the district on Wednesday.
Investments in education over the five years include four model SoA’s: Wampar Secondary School, a vocational school, Balob Teachers College scholarship for students from remote areas and support implementation of the 1-6-6 standard-based education curriculum.
“The Huon Gulf development authority also offers scholarship for selected teachers to undertake further training in Goroka and Divine Word Universities to earn bachelors and masters degrees” Seymour said.
The investment in CCVE materials was based on an K80,000 commitment during a trainers training at Bubia in 2014.
