Teachers from Hela currently enrolled with the University of Goroka’s distance and flexible learning programme received a K50,000 boost yesterday.
Hela education director Ronny Angu gave K50,000, from the province’s budget.
He said more than 80 students were enrolled in diploma and degree programmes that needed help from the department.
He thanked the provincial government administrator Marago Dagoba for supporting the initiative, as well as Governor Philip Undialu for its additional sponsorship of K75,000 through Hela Undialu Education Foundation.
The Hela Education Foundation was initiated to help Hela’s tertiary students attending various institutions in the country.
“For the province to raise the standard of education, teachers need to be well trained to give them more confidence in the classroom and importantly it adds value to the teaching and learning process by making it more effective and efficient,” Undialu said.
“The help given is vital that will help teachers upgrade their teaching methods and skills. The training ultimately raises the wellbeing of teachers as well as students.”
Angu said the Hela education division was in discussions with UOG to provide Lahara courses for specialist teachers.
