Teachers, health staff attend course

TWENTY elementary teachers and health workers along the Kokoda Track have attended a course to upgrade their education levels at the Kokoda College in Northern.
Noelyn Watti, an elementary school teacher from Bisiatabu Primary School in Sogeri, said she always wanted to upgrade her marks and matriculate from year 12.
“This programme will help me a lot and upgrade my grade 10 marks. I am not a failure and I want to be able to teach in primary level and educate my children and the rest of the community,” she said.
Theresa Sara said the lack of proper health awareness in communities motivated her to become an advocate for improved health information in rural communities.
“I want to upgrade my knowledge and skills and help achieve better health outcomes by working with our remote communities through this training.”
The inaugural Kokoda College Flexible Open and Distant Education programme is a partnership with the Kokoda Track Foundation and the PNG-Australia Partnership to support training for teachers and health workers.
