TEACHERS are a crucial component of Lahara Birdwing School as it aspires to become a model learning institution for early childhood education in the city, principal Helen Harricknen says.

She said the school had achieved its goal in appointing teachers who had high work ethics and standards essential to its aim at producing quality, eager and religious students in their formative years.

“We don’t want to be in competition with any other school but we want to set a model so other Papua New Guineans can say that we need to have schools like this in order to educate all our children,” Harricknen said.

“We need to have enablers to achieve our goals and we believe that the enablers are the teachers.

“They are very important to achieving this and so therefore professional development for teachers is a priority for Lahara Birdwing School.”

She said teachers – both old and new – held a meeting at the beginning of the year to allow themselves to work as a unit.

“I believe my teachers are the enablers who will support the implementation of programmes in our curriculum for the year,” Harricknen said.

“We’ve worked hard to get this school to where it is now.”
