Teachers play key role

Letters

TEACHERS need to be holistically successful as it is the way forward.
Physically, they need to be healthy and wealthy.
They need to be practising and living a healthy lifestyle by using the resources they have to fend for important basic needs.
Mentally, they need to have appropriate knowledge and sound mind to make good decisions.
They need to be spiritually well and so they can be full of wisdom and understanding.
This is so that they can guide others, not only for earthly success but eternity as well.
Helen Caldecott said: “Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the Earth.”
This implies that teachers need to be holistically successful because they are mentors, leaders and role models in society.
If teachers take a positive approach to provide important content, technical knowledge and skills for prosperity and good health, quality and high level education for good jobs and important decisions, and love and compassion for unity, peace and harmony, we expect peace-loving and responsible citizens in our society.
On the other hand, if teachers do things negatively (become lazy, wishy-washy and involve themselves in corrupt and immoral practices) we expect social issues to escalate in society.
Therefore the future of a society, whether it will be good or bad, depends on teachers.
For this reason, teachers have to be holistically successful not only for their personal gain but to influence others who are looking highly upon them to pave way for other better things to happen in the process of time.
