Teachers swap to supervise examination

NINE teachers from the Chuave Secondary School were part of a swap programme to invigilate grade 10 national examinations in Chimbu.
It is a tradition used by school boards to avoid cheating and bias, and to provide transparency and accountability.
Teacher Korai James told The National that the nine teachers were sent to different schools to invigilate the one-week national exam.
“I went to Kewamugh High School in Kerowagi. The others went to Mt Wilhelm High School, Baringkik High School, Kunabau High School, Kondiu Rosary Secondary School, Moroma Adventist High School, Kewamugl Lutheran High School and Kundiawa Day Secondary School.”
She said all exam papers would be taken back to the provincial education authority for marking and results verification.
Meanwhile, James said nine graduate teachers from the University of Goroka were posted to Chuave Secondary School.
“From January to October, we were on an allowance base of K100 per fortnight,” James said.
“The school has secured our positions already. Our personal files were sent to the Teaching Service Commission in Port Moresby for our names to be put on the payroll system.”
