Teachers to take entry test

Education

NEW primary school graduate teachers have to undergo an entry test to be qualified to teach in schools in Jiwaka, Jiwaka education adviser Dr Charly Muke says.
“The entry test is conducted because the provincial education board (PEA) wants to ensure quality teaching and education,” he said.
Dr Muke said the test was conducted to see the level of knowledge new graduates had related to basic mathematics and literacy before posting them.
He said graduates might have scored the required grade point average (GPA) but some were still unable to teach in classrooms.
Dr Muke said 70 new graduates underwent the entry test exercise recently.
“Some did not attend and those who did not participate were believed to be the ones who have entered the system fraudulently and were afraid to undergo the test,” he said.
“Of the 70 who passed the entry test, only 20 secured a position to teach in a school in the province while the rest are in the pool.
“The teaching service need to create more teaching positions in the country.”
