Teachers told to be good role models for students

Education

Teachers must become good role models for their students, a school principal says.
The principal of Mary Immaculate Girls Technical Secondary School, Sister Regina Anthony said the teaching profession is a lifelong calling.
She said teachers and parents had the role in educating children to be disciplined and productive.
Citing from wise proverb, Anthony said “the school is as good as its teachers”.
About 40 teachers from the school at Dirima in Gumine, Chimbu, celebrated the Catholic Teachers Day recently.
Parish priest Peter Kim said self-discipline among teachers influences the behaviour of children.
Teachers and students from five schools – the Little Angles (child minding), two elementary schools, a primary, and the girl’s technical secondary – celebrated the teachers’ day.
Gumine education standard officer Michael Sipa thanked the teachers in church-run schools for teaching Christian values to students.
Anthony said the event was on the liturgical calendar of the Catholic church. This year was the third year of celebrations.
