TEACHERS in East New Britain have been urged to be serious in their profession and to take up their postings with commitment.
Teaching Service Commissioner in policy Samson Wangihomie said on a visit to the province on Tuesday that teachers should take up their postings with commitment not because of where their appointments were located.
He said that was the only way they could remain true to their profession.
Wangihomie announced that the Teaching Service Act was under review, with consultations being sought from the four regions in the country before it could be passed in Parliament.
He commended the provincial education board and the education division for their commitment to teachers in the province on issues affecting them.
Wangihomie said the National Teaching Service had delegated 25 powers back to provinces and leave applications were among those.
He said it gave provinces the control to effectively help and approve such applications for teachers.
Provincial acting education adviser Faiva Sione said the province was expected to sit for its second review of teachers’ postings to consider transfers and new graduates and urged boards of managements to support their teaching staff and adhere to advice by the board on school fee subsidies.
