MANY teachers have not been served by officers at the Madang education office, a teacher says.
The teacher, who was posted to a remote school and did not want to be named, told The National that they have been spending money to come to the office to have their queries solved but had been turned away since last week.
“I know the other teachers are also facing the same problem because officers are not at the office to attend to us,” he said.
“We have our students to teach and want the authorities to attend to us quickly so we can go back to our respective schools and resume classes.
“Last year was not a good year because of the Covid-19.
“I call on the officers to stay in the office and attend to us accordingly.”
According to teachers, Tuesdays and Thursdays were query days and that was the only time they could be attended to. Teachers gathered yesterday at an empty education office and complained that many of them were from remote schools and needed to return to their schools.
A senior teacher at a school in the Ramu area said he had been going to the office since last week but had not been attended to which was frustrating.
“I had to pay for the PMV fares to travel into Madang and back and it is a very costly exercise for,” he said.
