A TEAM of officials is assessing the damage caused by the recent bad weather in the Abau district of Central.
National Disaster Office director Martin Mose said the team would assess the damage to properties caused by the recent strong winds and rain in Abau.
“Once the assessment report is received, we will see how we can assist,” Mose said.
“There are structures in place to respond appropriately at the provincial level to such cases and are urged to deploy a team for assessment.”
Mose said relief and financial assistance would be based on the report.
Meanwhile, Mose warned that strong winds and rain are expected over the next 24 hours in the Southern, Mamose, Highlands and New Guinea Islands regions.
He warned people in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and put their personal safety first.
Moses said the best way to save lives was to conduct more awareness.
He said the weather pattern in the coastal areas near Australia had changed.
