TEAM Central cashed up K100,000 yesterday to cater for transport and food costs during the National Games which is scheduled to kick off on Nov 16 in Port Moresby, thanks to Central province Governor Alphonse Moroi.
The K100,000 from Moroi’s office will ease team Central financial hardships and they will now concentrate on their preparations.
A total of 336 athletes representing the province went into camp on Oct 14, while five sporting codes, cricket, rugby union , power lifting, disability sports and weightlifting are doing their own preparations using their respective sporting facilities and venues.
Moroi was not on hand to present the cheque to Team Central representatives however members of his staff facilitated the presentation.
The chairman of Finance for Central provincial government, Pastor Lofa Loea stepped in to do the official presentation of the cheque to team representaive Jenny Vagi, and highlighted that sports was one of the avenues that would keep the youth from anti-social activities.
“The Moroi-Poiya government is committed to its social obligations and sports is not an exception and it will continue support team Central and the  youth of Central province,”  Loea said.
Vagi commended Moroi and his provincial assembly for the timely assistance, which would go a long way in ensuring team Central’s success at the National Games, which it is co-hosting with NCD.
She also revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Abau Sir Puka Temu had also thrown in his support for team Central by allocating K30,000 to the team from his district support grant.
The call is still out, however, to the other MPs from the province to come forward and support Team Central as it embarks on doing the province proud at the third PNG Games next month.
