MORE than 400 athletes that make up Team Eastern Highlands have shown a positive spirit of self-reliance by bringing their own food for the 4th PNG National Games in Port Moresby.
The athletes, who are camping at Taurama Primary School, are ready and geared up for the games.
As an added boost to their morale and to show they meant business, the team brought with them their own food to sustain them for the period of the games.
The bags of vegetables and even firewood were brought to Lae and then shipped to Port Moresby.
The Eastern Highlands provincial government showed its support by funding the food as well as transportation costs.
Benjamin Tehe, who owns the residence where the food is being stored near the Gordon market, said: “This will keep the athletes healthy throughout the games.”
He would provide logistics for the team which will enable Team Eastern Highlands to be less dependent on the Host Organising Committee (HOC).
Mr Tehe said the team had come prepared with their own food because they aim to win the title this year.
The NCD Eastern Highlands community will be providing them the support to enable them to win their games.
