Team EHP get backing

EASTERN Highlands provincial government yesterday forked out K250,000 to rally behind Team EHP to bag more gold medals and bring the games back to Goroka, which plays host in 2011, in style . The team’s treasurer said the presentation brought funds raised yesterday to K280,750 of the total amount of K600,000 needed to fly 450-member team to Port Moresby. He said the amount raised so far, including contributions and pledges was only half the amount required and called for more financial support from business houses in Port Moresby. Eastern Highlands provincial chairman of community development and former premier Walter Nombe presented the K250,000 cheque to chairman of Team Eastern Highlands and deputy provincial administrator (district services) John Gimisive during a final fund raising drive in front of the Yanepa Provincial Government building yesterday. Kainantu district administrator Ako Onise also presented K20,000 on behalf of Kainantu MP Sailon Beseo and his district Onise said half of the money would go to the 47 participants from Kainantu who are part of the team while the balance was Kainantu’s contribution for the Team EHP.
