THE 7th PNG Games was deferred twice due to various circumstances like weather and preparations for the national elections.
While the Hela provincial sports office has been waiting patiently, the appetite to show the country what it can offer in terms of sporting talent has increased.
Hela sports coordinator Ken Agobe plans on bringing a large contingent to Kimbe in Nov to take part in 13 sporting codes.
The codes he mentioned are basketball, soccer, rugby 9s, rugby 7s, karate, touch football, darts, snooker, volleyball, kickboxing, boxing and athletics.
But before they travel, the provincial sports office will complete the last phase of their selection process which is the second part of the provincial games.
The dates of the games were not confirmed as yet because the provincial sports office is waiting for Governor Philip Undialu to return to kick-off final stage.
Agobe is confident Hela will be well prepared for the PNG Games and will need an estimated K500,000 to participate in the games.
He said most of the athletes in the team would be raw talents who would be looking forward to be exposed.
“Most of our athletes are students and some are from the villages. They have been training and maintaining fitness under our watchful eyes so we believe we can do well this time.”
