TEAM Central have sounded an early warning of their intentions following their nail-biting 4-4 draw with Suburban (3) in the NCD Governors Cup final at the Kone Tigers Oval yesterday.

From the 28 teams that came from within the nation’s capital and outlying Motu-Koita villages, both teams toughed it out to end the action filled four-day selection trial tournament on a high.

Central Lauma, under the guidance of Norris Selu promised to spoil the party and they nearly did with an early try to Kivori Poe talent Joe Mika’s in the first stanza.

Filtered with a host representative talent including Enga Mioks full-back Karo Kauna Jnr, former Gulf Isapea Junior Belo, Dobo Warriors Johns Niesi and skipper Anthony Abavu, they looked to steal the win.

However the Suburban outfit’s continuous probing of the latter’s defence-line finally paid dividends on the stroke of full-time when dummy-half Heni Kepas punched through a lazy tackle from Belo to force the draw.

With Allan Simberi missing the conversion near the uprights, the match ended in a draw.

The Plate final ended in a 4-4 draw between the exciting Tatana and Vabukori teams.

PomRL (1) and Suburban (2) drew the Bowl final 4-4.

NCD suburban sports chairman Billy Aki thanked the NCDC sports desk for their contribution of K10,000 towards the running of the tournament and hailed it a success towards identifying promising talent to represent Team NCD at the forthcoming PNG Games.

Tournament chairman Micky Kone congratulated all teams, especially the outlaying village teams from Tubusereia, Tatana, Lealea, Vabukori and Pari for making the tournament a competitive affair.

The Team NCD nines team and management will be announced tomorrow.
