Team of engineers undergoes medical check
The National, Thursday February 19th, 2015
A TEAM of Telikom PNG National Broadband Network project engineers are currently undergoing medical checks before heading back to the mountains.
Since last week, the engineers undertook cardiac examination, including a stress test, which is important to the nature of their job. Port Moresby General Hospital cardiologist Dr Jack Amana said it was important to take the checks and tests to identify the status of their health.
“With the nature of their job, it is important that they are screened for heart diseases, developing heart conditions and high blood pressure including haemoglobin check,” he said.
“The oxygen level on the mountain top is low and the physical work involved requires good health.
“One has to have a very healthy heart and good overall health to withstand the conditions of working long hours in such environment.”
Programme manager for the NBN project Jeffrey Bean said Telikom regarded as a priority the security and health of its engineers who worked long hours and in the harshest of conditions.
