Team PNG set for challenge

Team PNG are set for competition at the 10th Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu with the aim of defending their top place position on the medal tally attained in Wallis and Futuna in 2013.
Chef de mission Emma Waiwai said Team PNG were in Vanuatu to compete and they were not leaving without achieving their goals.
“We are ready and are looking forward to taking back the spoils to Papua New Guinea,” she said.
The team are expecting strong challenges from traditional rivals, New Caledonia, Fiji and hosts Vanuatu.
“Everyone is here to give their best and we will ensure that they are able to do that to the best of their ability,” Waiwai said.
“At the end of competition we want to send everyone back satisfied that they gave their best.”
She thanked partners of the PNG Olympic Committee and Team PNG whose support has made it possible for the team to participate at the the regional tournament.
“I want to thank all our sponsors and partners and also to everyone who participated in our events including the Trukai Fun Run and the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge to raise funds for the team,” Waiwai said.
She thanked Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited for covering levies for the team and Air Niugini for the ease in moving the team’s luggage through during the trip.
Waiwai also acknowledged the support of ExxonMobil PNG, SP Brewery, The National, Coral Sea Hotels, IBS University, Blue 7 Team, Theodist, Trophy Haus and Media Partners.
“Through your support we are here and we will be giving our best to ensure that we get the best results for the country,” Waiwai said
“It will be a challenge but we have some of our best athletes here and we are confident in their talent to take us to the top again.”
