TEAM Southern Highlands still needs an estimated K300,000 to attend the 4th PNG Games which starts next Thursday.
The provincial government had earlier contributed K250,000. However, on Tuesday, the team’s plea was acknowledged when Public Service Minister Peter O’Neill, Kagua-Erave MP James Lagea and Mendi MP Pastor Isaac Joseph stepped in to rescue them with a total of K350,000.
It is almost half of the budget estimate the organizers had anticipated to enable the whole team to attend the event.
The side has also short-listed 350 participants, including officials from traveling to Port Moresby.
Team Southern Highlands publication officer Benson Iabo said they needed to raise another K250,000.
Iabo said such contribution from the provincial government will push for the athletes to put in their best efforts.
He claimed that youths made up almost 80% of the province, and such support at the provincial level, was a positive sign for the side.
Iabo called on business houses and landowner associations to step forward with contributions.
He is also appealing to major companies in the province, including ExxonMobil, Curtain Brothers and the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).
Any donations should be forwarded to Team PNG BSP account No. 1001 609 430 and for more information call Digicel 7101 3116.
