PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has admitted that housing is a big issue in the country because many people are living in sub-standard conditions.

He yesterday launched the “Build the nation through quality and affordable houses” and said PNG was a young country and struggling in many areas including the provision of basic housing to its people.

He said past governments had failed to provide this basic necessity to the people because it was not one of their priorities.

O’Neill said a ministerial team had been set up to look into the housing issue and to come up with tangible solutions to fix the problem.

The team has been given until November to deliver programmes and projects which will be included in the 2014 budget.
