TEAM West New Britain completed the 4th PNG Games with an overall seventh placing collecting 10 golds, nine silvers and six bronzes – an impressive improvement up three places from the last games  in Lae, Morobe  province, in 2007.
Team West New Britain assistant general team manager told The National yesterday that the performance was impressive, especially with the Paralympics contributing four golds.
“We did not have proper training facilities for the Paralympians to prepare, and so their achievement was remarkable,” Mavihi said.
He also attributed the team’s overall performance to the women’s gold medal winning soccer team,  touch rugby team and powerlifters for their contributions.
“We have ovals and athletic tracks  that are not up to standard and we will ensure they are expanded and properly done up before the next games.”
