WORKING together to influence and motivate people is vital for development,   Department of Personnel Management Secretary says.

John Kali spoke during a meeting with international experts who were visiting to discuss development of the country’s public services.

In collaboration with the Papua New Guinea Government, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organised an international experts’ mission to discuss potential partnerships in public service delivery.

UNDP’S Global Centre for Public Service Excellence representatives, Dr Nigel Goh and Ryan Orange were among the group of experts that visited .

The experts met with the PNG Institute of National Affairs, Coffey International, New Zealand and Australian High Commissions, the Parliament Speaker’s office, Secretary for Personnel Management and other senior civil servants and civil society representatives.

The visit created discussions on potential partnerships between the UNDP and the Government in the area of public service delivery.

Participants during the meeting discussed key challenges in implementing public services and identified that one of the main issue was the need to work in more integrated ways to solve complex issues  that centred the public service delivery.

Linking this is the need to manage national standards of service through decentralised systems.

The same with empowering civil servants to implement policy and provide services, most effectively for the needs of all citizens.
