A TEAM is working with a bank to open a disaster account for the Saki landslide victims and their families as Goilala continues to receive donations from individuals and business houses toward last Dec 28’s disaster.
Goilala MP William Samb said the team was working with the bank so businesses houses or individuals who were able to give financial assistance could do so directly.
“While doing that, we are also going through the normal process because accounts are closed and the offices for the various offices are on holiday,” he said.
“We are mobilising funds to meet the cost of logistics, additional food stuff and also prepare for the closing customary gathering.
“Once we do that customary gathering, then people can go back to their usual alluvial activity.”
Samb thanked business houses and church groups that provided relief supplies.
“We also want to thank our Prime Minister James Marpe for taking time out from his busy schedule to come up to visit his people, our people in Saki,” he said.
Samb thanked Central Governor Robert Agarobe for taking part in mobilising and organising relief supplies in Port Moresby.
He commended the locals at Saki who worked with government teams to retrieve nine bodies and ensured they were returned to their families for burial.
“So to our community and our team at Saki, we want to thank you,” Samb said.
“That is an example of a resilient community at work making use of whatever is available to them.”
