THE Moresby Men’s Softball Association pitched off round four of its season yesterday with the teams picking up momentum in the level of competition.
The highlight of the day was Kikila Cats’ 26-2 win over Mariners.
Association president Ali Daveona said Mariners needed to pick up their pace.
“The first two rounds were pretty slow but after rounds three and four, everybody is starting to come to the games now,” he said.
“Going forward, there needs to be improvements from a couple of teams, especially Stingerz, Mariners and Bears.
“They need to go back to the drawing board and see how they can get back to the level of competition that everybody else is at.” In the other matches, Brown Eagles beat Stingers by 7-4, Defence defeated Saints 1-0, Pawa triumphed over Bears 9-3 and United Brothers drew 1-1 with Gazelle while Aviat Jets were on a bye.
“United Brothers and Gazelle were the contenders for the pre-season finals last year and I think their level of competition is really good,” Daveona said.
“I think the level of competition is improving compared with the pre-season where everybody was slow off the mark.
“The more games we play, the better everybody gets.”
Meanwhile, Daveona said the season would continue until early April where the round matches end and four-week finals begin.
“It’s just one round of competition so each team will play each other just once,” he said.
“The finals format will see the top-four teams playing unless the executives change it.
“For now, I’m satisfied with the progress of the games, considering the Covid-19 conditions.
“Hopefully, we continue next week and keep going.”
Results — Brown Eagles 7 Stingerz 4, Defence 1 Saints 0, Kikila Cats 26 Mariners 2, Pawa 9 Bears 3, United Brothers 1 Gazelle 1.
