PROVINCIAL teams should begin preparations well in advance for the next PNG Games, says a PNG Sports Federation official.
National youth coordinator Scott Vavine said this would avoid last-minute problems such as funding and related issues.
“Come 2014, all provinces should be more focused and getting themselves ready for the games in Lae,” he said.
“We do not want to have a repetition of late preparations because the Games began in 2003 and by now we should be better organised to get more quality participation from athletes and officials.”
He urged provincial teams to start preparing as early as next month.

“The first three weeks of December will be very crucial and as soon as the Kokopo Games are over, the provinces will return home and team managers must put together acquittals of funds and make recommendations and also put a plan for 2013 and 2014,” Vavine said.
“The provincial authorities must take ownership of their provincial team as well as politicians and business houses.”
“If provincial governments are not conscious of sending in their teams, they will be running into a lot of problems at the last minute.”
