Port Moresby Technical College has upgraded two of its national certificate courses to diploma level, according to acting principal Henry Wamaingu.
Under the curriculum development programme, the college would take in the first batch of students for the diploma in electrical engineering and diploma in printing and graphical designs next year.
Wamaingu said the course would run for three years for new intakes and one to two years for students who have completed national certificate 1, 2 and 3.
“Our administration has worked together with the Education Division and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology to allow for the upgrade of these courses,” Wamaingu said.
The school is having its one week in-service course as recommended by the Education Department. It is an annual programme for teachers’ curriculum development and it closes today.
Spokesman Jake Mitiam said the in-service focused on mobilising resources, in terms of both human labour and training for the delivery of the diploma programmes.
Mitiam said other courses would be upgraded when the Government provided funding.
“Right now, there is not enough funds to upgrade all courses at the same time,” Mitiam said.
The college is looking forward to graduating the first diploma students in 2020.
